We want the outcome, but we need the journey
We want the outcome, but we need the journey.
That statement sounds great, but it is extremely hard to see its importance and validity.
Once we have spent time on the journey and have also seen its importance, then we can buy into the statement. And even then, we often just want the outcomes.
The journey helps us build structures in our lives that allow us to carry the weight of the outcomes.
If we got what we wanted when we wanted, the outcomes would most likely crush us. By spending time getting formed during the journey, we can actually be set up to healthily carry the outcomes.
One silly example of this is child actors. How many child actors can we point to who had 'everything' at an early age but didn't have the mature structures in their lives to withstand the 'success.'
I was on a Zoom with several coaches the other day, and one of the coaches did not get his first head coaching job until age 49. This has allowed him to have a greater perspective and be a better leader than if he had gotten his first head job at age 32.
I am not making the case that you are not trying to do everything in your power to win/produce results. Just simply making a case for embracing the journey as you are working for great outcomes.
