Things I am thinking about...

Things I have been thinking about over the last several months:

+ A lot of great leaders have figured out the tension between holding people accountable to the standards and expectations and at the same time not coming across like a cop (who also happens to be a jerk).

+ Leadership consists of one hard conversation after another. Learn to have them!

+ Not all leaders are readers...but most high level-leaders are consistently learning and improving.

+ The learning wheel- do/read/learn -> reflect -> adjust/implement -> do/read/learn -> reflect...

+ It is hard to be a high-level leader if you cannot bring clarity to the people you lead.

+ The question is not do you have people-pleasing tendencies, the question is how deep do those tendencies run.

+ What you are currently trying to grow in might be the most critical decision for your future self.

+ The longer we are at a place, to more we stop seeing what's right and the more we see what's wrong. How can you be a problem solver and make things better but have off-the-charts gratitude at the same time?

+ When we go to screens (social media, Netflix, etc) to 'rest' it doesn't actually give us rest...it drains us. The lies sound like this "I will give you rest." "I will satisfy the itch needing to be scratched." "What else are you going to do? You will be bored out of your mind" "You need to keep up on current events?"

+ Try something...go two evenings without screens...if it is not a game changer...then go back to your normal screen time.

+ When we observe to learn, we learn. When we compare to validate, we either become self-righteous or insecure.

+ Just like a large % of athletes won't truly do what it takes to maximize their abilities, leaders rarely do what it takes to be great.

+ We too often don't even have clarity on the problem that needs to be solved...so we come up with a solution before really understanding the problem. First be sure of the problem...then solve it.
