The unique combination that helps people be exceptional
A skill stack is a collection of skills (and attributes and gifts) that you possess that go a long way toward determining your level of success.
If someone asks "This is a great cake, what is the ingredient that makes it so good?" You might start to say "sugar" but you would probably remember that without the eggs and flour, sugar is actually not very good. Butter helps the finished product, but butter by itself would be disgusting.
It is impossible to pick one ingredient.
Much like a cake, we are a stack of ingredients that, when mixed make us who we are.
One of the things I notice with high achievers is they often (not all the time) have a unique combination in their stack.
For example: Steve Jobs had a unique combination that includes an eye for design, a master storyteller, and a high level of drive.
Jeff Bezos combined great storytelling with high levels of business acumen plus huge capacity.
John Grisham combined prolific output with a deep knowledge of law. He might not be the best writer but his output and knowledge of Law have made him one of the most popular authors in the last 30 years.
One coach I have gotten to know combines an in-depth knowledge of analytics, biomechanics and an incredibly strong passion for his sport.
Another coach has had success due to being a master motivator, a great storyteller which helps him be a great recruiter, and he has an unbelievable work ethic.
As you think of the 4-6 skills that combine to make you you, is there one skill that if you were to add or grow could take your leadership to another level?
