It’s like digging a ditch

Super short email...

Building culture is much like digging a ditch...the directive is simple but it is really hard work.

Three keys to building culture in your program.

1. Bring clarity to:

a) the expectations
b) the standards 
c) the values (what is really important)

Do you have elite clarity of what your program is about and can you communicate that clearly?

2. Treat people like they will and can meet the expectations, standards, and act in alignment with the values. This is the Pygmalion Effect. Treat people like you believe they can thrive and they will often thrive. Treat them like they can't thrive, and they probably won't. Can you inspire and help people thrive? 

3. Hold people accountable. This holding accountable is meant to propel people and not repel people. There is a way to challenge people and really get after them that doesn't feel demeaning but rather demonstrates a belief you have in them. Can you hold people accountable in a way that moves and propels them forward?

The better you #1 and #2, the easier and less you have to deal with #3.
