Proof of Life...Fulfillment Follows Growth and Impact

Fulfillment in life comes from two things:

- Growth

- Impact

If we chase fulfillment we will not catch it, but if we pursue growth and have an impact on others...fulfillment will catch us.

Growth
There is one sign signifying death...it (whatever 'it' is) stops growing.

Growth is the first key to living a fulfilled life.

When I think of growth, I think of several categories.

The first is growth in your relationships. Are you connecting and engaging with people in your life? Is there a reciprocal pouring into each other?

The other is personal or professional growth. This is feeling like you are progressing, getting better, and discovering new things about yourself, your work, and others.

One of my friends and clients told a cohort of ADs I was leading "When I am reading and writing I am thriving."

However, we can get in ruts. We can come home, eat dinner, fire up Netflix, and then go to bed. That for one night is totally fine. That for two months leads to zero fulfillment and a slow 'death'.

Proof of life is growth!

Impact
The other element of living a fulfilled life is impact.

We are created for things to flow through us, not stop with us. We should look more like a river than a pond.

When use our gifts to add value to others, we will be fulfilled.

Think about the last time you served someone. Whether at a shelter, soup kitchen or in your own house. The initial thought of serving someone is not glamorous. We have to die to our wants and wishes.

But when we actually die to ourselves and go serve, it always produces fulfillment.

Impact can also be had as you pour into and develop those around you.

However, we are all prone to become self-focused and self-centered. We often focus on the result and not the journey. We focus on the success and not the development of our people.

Developing your people leads to success.

Developing your people also leads to fulfillment.

Two Deaths

There are two kinds of death. The obvious one is when we physically die and take our last breath here on earth.

The second one is when we stop growing and stop impacting people. If we are not intentional about it, we will slowly, and at times, almost imperceptibly, move towards 'death'.

Are there any changes you need to make to have a steady stream of personal growth and impact in your life?

"How we spend our days is, of course, how we will spend our lives."
