Are you a script writer, a script reader or are you...
A script reader is someone who runs the play that is called, follows the script that is given to them, executes someone else's vision, and plays by the rules.
A script writer is a visionary, they come up with new ideas and ways to do things. They see opportunities where no one else does, they are often dreamers and challenge the status quo.
There is a third category. It's the curator.
This is the person who might not have the vision of a script writer but is massively curious.
The curator is not creating something entirely new (writer) or following a well-worn path (reader).
They are excellent at collecting, remixing, and presenting the best ideas from others in a way that feels original and authentic to them.
The curator is well aware of trends and original ideas and seeks to learn from the visionaries and those who are at the tip of the spear.
They are then able to interpret, package, and frame ideas in a way that is helpful for others but is also unique to them.
Many leaders think they are scriptwriters. But in my experience, few are. This is the power of being a curator. You can add massive value to your organization by simply being a learning machine.
Be honest with yourself...if you desire to be that sort of leader but aren't, you are more than capable of being a curator. You might not break new ground, but you can curate and then package in a compelling, authentic way.
+ Script Readers execute the plan as it’s given.
+ Script Writers create the plan from scratch.
+ Script Curators assemble pieces from different sources and arrange them into something compelling.
