“When the winds of change blow, some people build walls and others build windmills.”

“When the winds of change blow, some people build walls and others build windmills.” – Chinese Proverb

Anecdotally it seems that more people view life changes as a negative rather than a positive. And yet change is a constant in this life.

Let's talk about changing jobs or vocations.

The days of staying at one company for 30+ years seem to be over...and have been for some time.

Everything has a cycle. As a leader, your people will cycle in and out. There is a shelf life on your people. And this is okay.

How you handle people leaving will often determine what caliber of people you can replace them with.

As a leader, you also have a shelf life. As stated before, most shelf life's are not 30+ years. In fact, as of January 2024, the median tenure for wage and salary workers in the United States was 3.9 years.

Change is inevitable. And change can also be really good!

Some of our greatest growth seasons come as a result of change. We get stretched, pushed out of our comfort zone, and challenged in ways that don't happen without it.

Change often creates new opportunities. Opportunities to be around new people, have new experiences and be a part of new cultures.

Change is not if but when. The more we are open-handed about change, the better we respond when change happens.

Do you sense a change on the horizon?

How did you handle the last substantial change in your life? Would being open-handed have helped?
