Wisdom is found upstream

Why do some people seem to see issues earlier and more clearly than others?

There can be several things at play. But one thing that is often at play is the ability to solve problems upstream as opposed to downstream.

When you are solving upstream problems you are solving problems closer to the source.

Downstream is the manifestation of the upstream problem.

Downstream problems are really upstream problems.

Examples

For example: You go to the doctor and find out you have high blood pressure. You can simply take a pill that helps lower your blood pressure or you can go to the source by making a lifestyle change and cutting out the foods that might be causing the high blood pressure. (Although I sound like a doctor, I am not:)

Or say you are having a hard time waking up in the morning. You can go buy an alarm clock so you now have an alarm clock and your phone going off in the morning... or the night before, you can avoid caffeine and put away your phone so you get to bed earlier.

When faced with a problem...trace it upstream and solve the core or heart of what is really going on!

**It can be helpful to consistently ask yourself self "What else could be at play here?" or "What else could be causing this?" We far too often get on autopilot when solving problems, going with the first, and most surface thing that comes to mind.

Get in a habit of taking your time and asking "What else?"
