Checking in on a leader's impact

During a marriage discussion one day, I had a wise, older mentor say the following to me, "I think when our life has ended here on earth, God will look at us and ask us "How did you care for your wife?" and in that moment, we will start to tell him all the awesome things we did for her. I think he will tell us to hold on, move us aside and look at our wife's demeanor, her countenance, her smile, and her radiance. How we lead our wife, in general, will show up and be written all over her."

For this week's email, I am taking this idea and applying it to leadership in our profession...

If we want to get a good picture of how we are leading, look at those we are leading!

+ If the people you lead feel your belief in them, how strong is their self-belief?

+ If the people you lead takes on your attitude, do you like their attitude?

+ If the people you lead feed off your energy, what is their energy like?

+ If the people you lead mimic your gratitude, are they grateful?

+ If the people you lead mirror your demeanor, what do they look like to the outside world?

+ If the people you lead copy how you handle adversity, how do they handle adversity?

+ If the people you lead communicate like you do, is this healthy and beneficial?

+ If the people you lead intensely feel your presence, what do they feel?

+ If the people you lead model your truth telling, is truth being shared?

+ If the people you lead learn professionalism from watching you, are they pro's?

The leader sets the tone!
