I’m starting to see that the biggest competition and challenge a leader faces is themselves.
You vs. You
It is an internal battle every day to :
+ stay confident
+ avoid comparison
+ avoid and fight negative narratives that play on loop in our minds
+ fight anxiety or extreme worry
+ trust your decision making
+ stay consistent
How do you navigate these? These are not easy to avoid and fight.
A few ideas:
+ Know who you are…and who you are not (True identity)
+ Learn from others but recognize that you should only use their principles and not mimic the person
+ Control the controllables. It’s what every coach tells their athletes. Know what you control and what you simply influence
+ Don’t try to please everyone
+ Be comfortable with the journey you are on (not worry about what others’ journey looks like… for example…head coach at 35.)
+ Be aware of self-talk. Just like your athletes…this will hinder performance
+ Let go. Instead of relentlessly focusing on the outcome, focus on the factors that drive outcomes.
+ Get a coach or circle of people who deeply care for you and can help in this journey (by offering perspective, sounding board, thought partner)
+ Gratitude. This might seem out of place but this is a key to great mental health. |
