I often wonder if I sound like a broken record. I seem to spend the majority of my time talking about the same 10-15 topics.
Then when I challenge myself to talk about something different, those I work with bring up one of these 10-15 topics.
Which makes me think that much of leadership/coaching is doing a great job in several key aspects.
One topic that I catch myself discussing a lot is summed up in the following two quotes by James Clear:
Quote 1
“The edge is in the inputs. The person who consumes from better sources, gets better thoughts. The person who asks better questions, gets better answers. The person who builds better habits, gets better results. It’s not the outcomes. It’s the inputs.”
Quote 2
“Almost every idea that you have is downstream from what you consume. When you choose whom to follow on Twitter, what book to read, what podcast to listen to, you’re choosing your future thoughts.”
Who you follow, what you listen to, what you read, and who you engage in discussion… matter to your future!
There are few things more important than what we consume. And there are few things that we need to be reminded of more than this topic.
I break everything up into two big buckets: leading self and leading others. This topic is at the top of the list when it comes to leading yourself well.
If you are like me, you need this reminder today…and probably again tomorrow or the next day.
Today, choose wisely what you consume and your future self will be grateful for your current self’s choices! |
