The energy that dooms you…

There are multiple ways to win influence.

+ Helping others develop and get better is one way we win influence.

+ Giving others clarity on where this team/org is going and how we are going to get there. Laying out a clear vision wins influence.

+ Connecting in a meaningful and personal way with those you lead wins influence.

One of the quickest and easiest ways to lose influence is to give off catabolic energy. (I wrote about it HERE).

Catabolic energy is energy that we give off that destructs, drains, and tears down. It is the energy that causes us to lose influence and trust quickly.

Below is a list of some catabolic (and anabolic) energy behaviors.

Regardless of the intensity of the behaviors…over time this truth rings true: You can be elite at helping others get better, bringing clarity to your people, building relationships, etc, but the moment you exhibit catabolic energy behaviors and do so with any consistency, you will lose influence.
